Each Step I Take

God's Holy Fire:
Sometimes it is marvelous to watch God work, and feel that you are simply cooperating. What must Moses have felt when he poised his staff above the Red Sea and witnessed the rush of glistening mighty waters as they fled under the guidance of an Invisible Presence? It is good to live long enough to know you can’t walk on water, turn water into wine, or split the Red Sea on a whim. Then, when it does happen you know you are simply at best cooperating.
The moving of the Spirit is like a fire that can be put out or fed. It burns better or worse with our cooperation.
When a boy I witnessed one of the most terrible grass fires I will ever remember. A single milk can had popped and landed outside the burning perimeter on the backside of our field. From there it caught in the tall grass and blazed quickly out of control. With horror I watched my mother and father helplessly fight against its advance in the dry wind. It climbed tall pine trees, jumped a road and ravaged on through a neighbor’s field. How quickly destruction can happen. How easily the fire went out of control.
I also cannot help knowing how inept I feel at starting a fire. The harder I try, the less the fire seems to want to grow!
Many times we have witnessed the Devil’s fires to rage quickly and destructively while God’s fires seem to smolder weakly. We as God’s coworkers have the responsibility to keep the Devil’s fires from raging and to feed God’s fires in our hearts. When God begins to move we know it is not just us. We must also realize the Devil will do his best to start fires that will destroy and put out the fire of God that is growing.
We must be firefighters and fire-kindlers! Let us make ourselves a committee of one to fight against the Devil’s wildfires that will destroy God’s moving in our midst. Let us throw the holy wood upon God’s fire and watch Him work, warming hearts, illuminating paths, and drawing people to it from the horrible darkness.
I thank God for how He is moving. When you read this we will have had Brooklyn’s birthday party and mingled with many, many friends. We are a church family, here for each other. Let us not take this privilege lightly.
Know that I am praying for you. You have your trials and burdens. We “have your back”. God came and met with us Wednesday night. The classroom was full. Thanks for coming.

Tonight at 5:30 we will be discussing church affiliation with the Pilgrim Nazarene Church. I feel this on my heart that we need to be, as a group, part of a larger organization that is currently blessed and headed down a conservative holiness path. Bro. Steve Snodgrass is a personal friend and I have watched him work tirelessly to steer this ship down a balanced path and contend for keeping God’s glory. Let us look at this church as a lighthouse that will be here for many years, as a ship that will set its course and be an influence for conservative holiness today and in the future.
