I am disturbed by cheap religion. I assume many think Christ asking the young ruler to sell all and follow him was a bit steep. If it were any other man who had required that price of him, we would laugh him to scorn. But Christ said it, and that makes us squirm. We are living in a day when it is hard to tell the difference between the commitment of Christians and the indifference of sinners. The reason is, today’s Christian is not born again, sold out. We are witnessing casual giving to the cause of God, convenient attendance to the house of God, confusing differences between the people of God and the world. Today’s lesson is about a man who was part of the “righteousness” crowd but who sinned willfully against a holy God and thought he would slide by unnoticed. In the end it caught up with him.
Sin is a serious thing.
1Jn 3:7-10
(7)  Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he (God) is righteous. (8)  He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. (9)  Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.
(10)  In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.
Sin will send people to hell, unless confessed and forsaken. If your religion is cheap enough to excuse you when don’t put God first, it is too cheap. If your religion will excuse you when you know you are doing wrong, it is too cheap and is the kind that will not get you inside those pearly gates.  Many call themselves Christians, but are not. Don’t wait too late to know for sure.

Please pray for the Emmett Community Bible Church in Emmett, Idaho. This is the home church that Edith attends when she is away from Colorado. The church suffered severe fire damage caused by an arsonist. They lost all of their SS supplies and all church records. The entry way was completely destroyed.

A new church-cleaning schedule for May has been printed out and posted in the main entry. It is a big job keeping the church clean every week, if you are able to help lift the load it would really be appreciated. Thank you to those who have already helped out, your willingness does not go unnoticed.

Today is our 1st Sunday of the month pot-luck after church. All are invited over to the parsonage for a time of food and fellowship.
There will be no evening service at 6:30pm tonight.
