Today's Sermon: The Language of the Christian

Today's Special: He is the Burden Bearer

From a child I have witnessed many very active religious people. I have listened to people tell me of visions they have received, been amazed at their knowledge of the Bible, and wondered at their ability to fast long times and pray night and day. Some of them have seen “miracles”, and have “slain people” in the Spirit. They have gone to church services at night till the early hours of the morning, then returned to work the next day, only to do it again the next night. Many of these are “fired up” about the Lord, but the other side of their lives don’t bear up under spiritual scrutiny. Mormons and Jehovah’s Witnesses amaze me with their stamina and sacrifice, all in the name of a religion that does not honor Jesus Christ as the only Son of God, whose blood atones for our sins. As a young person I took part in soul-winning campaigns,  going from person to person on the streets, witnessing. Then I began to realize that the work was shallow, and did not affect change in their hearts. They were “still- born” in the faith. But the church grew and people were excited.
If somebody is “fired up” about religion, does it necessarily mean they are always pleasing to God?

Many times the Counterfeit of Surrender to Christ is Service in His name. “I will do anything but give up my right to myself.”

Mat 16:24-25 “If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.” (not build a big church, sing in the choir, play an instrument, or even preach!)
1Co 13:1 -3
1.       Though I speak in a great way for Christ
2.      Though I have great Bible knowledge and wisdom
3.      Though my faith moves mountains

4.      Though I am sacrificial for His cause- bestow all my goods to feed the poor.
5.      Though I give my body to be burned- for what I believe

If I have not the Love of God in my heart- it gets me nowhere with God, and gets the kingdom nowhere by me.

There is something different about a person surrendered to God- 1Co 13:4-8 God can count on that person!

Don’t substitute activity for intimacy, service for surrender. God will fill our lives with His Spirit when we surrender completely.
Then we will be willing to do what He asks, not what we want. We will perform something that gives Him glory, not that feeds our ego. And it may look a lot different than what we had in mind before surrendered! His work in His way with His power.

1.      We have lost our helpers in Church Cleaning, the Phillips. It is not glamorous work, but we could use the help.
2.      A window was broken a couple of weeks ago in one of the Sunday School rooms- if anybody knows how to fix it that would be great.

Many hands make the load easier. Please consider giving of your time to help keep the church clean and looking nice for worship service on Sunday. Your time and efforts would be appreciated.

Amazing Grace

“Verily, verily I say unto you, unless a grain of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone; but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit. He that loveth his life shall lose it, and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal.” – John 12:24-25
