Sermon: Rev. Pat Courtney: A Place Called Hell

Special: Yancey Family: The Unseen Hand

Amazing Grace

Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound…to a wretch like me!
“Is it my obedience, consecration, and dedication that make me right with God? It is never that! I am made right with God because, prior to all of that, Christ died.” Oswald Chambers.
“No matter how good you think you are, it’s not until we know that we are like condemned criminals before Him that we can begin to understand how amazing His grace really is. When you can honestly say that His grace saved a wretch like you, you can begin to stand in amazement at the greatness of His grace.” – Joe Stowell
I looked up the Kilgore, TX. KFC massacre and gazed upon the faces of the two men arrested and convicted for the shooting murder of 5 people on Hwy 323 in 1983. I remember the news as a boy. Around closing time, they walked in to rob KFC. Present, were workers and one visitor. They took those innocent people, and drove them out of town, placed them down on ground, and shot them in back of head execution style. The manager ran and they shot him too. It is hard to imagine myself as lost and bad as those guys, but in God’s eyes, only the blood of Christ could ever save an individual. Everyone is as lost as those criminals.
Why and when would grace sound so sweet?
Only if it’s golden tones meant something to a dying, desperate man. His grace is only a “sweet sound” when you know how deep it had to go to clean you up! When you understand this, then you can easily believe God can touch every person, even the hardest cases….because it is His grace and divine power that can make the foulest clean!

- Pastor, Mike Yancey

“Wonderful grace of Jesus, Reaching to all the lost, by it I have been pardoned, saved to the uttermost; chains have been torn asunder, giving me liberty; for the wonderful grace of Jesus reaches me.” - Haldor Lillenas

Thank you Brother Courtney for your faithfulness as you have delivered your heart each evening this last week. Your admonition to continue to live in the Word of God and to obey His commands is a needed message in these last days.
