Sermon: Rev. Rev Mike Yancey: Spirit of Contentment

Special: Yancey Family: Every Need Supplied, We Have this Moment, and I Rather Have Jesus

Phil. 4:11-13 Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content.  I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. I can do all things through him who strengthens me.- ESV
“Paul was content because he could see life from God's point of view. He focused on what he was supposed to do, not what he felt he should have. Paul had his priorities straight, and he was grateful for everything God had given him. Paul had detached himself from the nonessentials so that he could concentrate on the eternal.” (Tyndale Devotional Online)
We are cursed with an unsatisfied hunger for more. Its starts out with survival instincts, then progresses to pleasures…but always a “need”.
Christ was clear that this would destroy the best of intentions. God is merciful by limiting a Christian’s success and resultant duties. Many have lost their way through ‘innocent’ pandering after this world’s goods.
Two of the greatest men I know were poor by this world’s standards…Paul and Christ. Yet, they had something inside that separated them from what sucks most people along. And they were provided for, and thankful.
Where do you fit? Have you a problem with always wanting more? May God help us to be truly thankful for God has given us, which will give us peace.

- Pastor, Mike Yancey

“Wonderful grace of Jesus, Reaching to all the lost, by it I have been pardoned, saved to the uttermost; chains have been torn asunder, giving me liberty; for the wonderful grace of Jesus reaches me.” - Haldor Lillenas

“When I am burdened, or weary and sad, Jesus is all I need. Never He fails to uplift and made glad. Jesus is all I need. All that I need He will always be, all that I need till His face I see, all that I need through eternity. Jesus is all I need.” - James Rowe

I want to thank the church for their kindness and over-the-top generosity in the pastor's appreciation gifts and cards. I am walking in the light in those comfy socks! (Thanks to Heather). We enjoyed a meal at the Elephant Bar the other night on the gift card, and Regina has confiscated the unclaimed check of 100 dollars since I received a gift card to J.A. Banks. What a joy it is to pastor such great and loving people. We are blessed to be in the parsonage and have all things provided for us. This is a huge expense, understood by someone who paid for those things himself many years. God Bless you all. Times and occasions like these bring our feelings for each other into bold relief. I appreciate every one of you, and am convinced you are serious about minding God, having unity, and being a blessing to others. Thanks again.  – Pastor Mike Yancey

Everyone is invited to the parsonage for a time of fellowship and food after this morning service. After the pot luck, we will meet back at the church for a short afternoon service. There will be no 6:30pm evening service tonight.
